Treatment Of Kidney Stones
Kidney stones are solid collections of normal urinary components which have formed into crystals. The majority of stones are calcium based, but there are several other types of stones which can also occur. Kidney stone formation is often influenced by diet, fluid intake, heredity, and occasionally other medical problems. Kidney stones can be asymptomatic if they are in the kidney and not causing any obstruction. As stones move around in the kidney, ureter and bladder, they may cause pain, blood in the urine, frequency and urgency. X-rays, ultrasound and CT scans are commonly used for diagnosis purposes. Many stones are able to pass without any intervention. When stones are symptomatic, minimally invasive techniques can be used to fragment them into tiny particles and relieve symptoms. With the exception of uric acid stones, medical therapy to dissolve stones is not effective. Learn more about Kidney Stones
